Open-ended Questions

Open-ended Questions are questions that can't be answered with yes/no — they require the other person to actually say something, which gives the conversation somewhere to go. In Alison Wood Brooks's Asking research they outperform closed questions across every metric that matters: liking, trust, information extracted, and perceived intelligence of the asker. They're also the raw material for good Follow-up Questions.
