Negotiation is the traditional MBA and law-school course that Alison Wood Brooks was originally recruited to Harvard Business School to teach, before she built Talk (course) instead. It's the canonical framework for teaching students how to handle adversarial conversations, but Brooks's insight was that negotiation is a narrow subset of a much larger, unstudied skill: Communication itself. Her Wharton PhD work on emotions in negotiation was the on-ramp.
