William Hockey's long-time base and the target of most of his sharpest critique. Hockey and Dan Wang frame SF as a consensus society on par with Beijing: everyone reads the same things, builds the same things, and agrees on the same narratives — which is exactly why most of what gets built here looks like every other thing getting built here. Hockey also compares today's SV to Wall Street in the 1990s: optimized for finance and career ladders, not for first-principles research.
