Founder Risk

The personal downside a founder bears if the company fails — financial, reputational, and opportunity cost. William Hockey argues modern SV has engineered founder risk out of the equation via generous salaries, large primary rounds, and early Secondary Sales — which removes the Skin in the Game that historically made founders make hard trade-offs. His argument is that low-risk founders make low-conviction companies.
