Who they are
Vietnamese Buddhist monk (1926–2022) who brought engaged Buddhism and mindfulness practice to the West. Exiled from Vietnam for his anti-war advocacy, he founded Plum Village in France and wrote over 100 books, most famously The Miracle of Mindfulness and Peace Is Every Step. His teaching reframed mindfulness as something embedded in ordinary action — washing dishes, walking, breathing — not an escape from life but deeper contact with it.
Core Ideas
- Mindfulness — awareness in ordinary action, not retreat
- Interbeing — nothing exists independently; everything is composed of everything else
