Who they are
German-born theoretical physicist (1879–1955), best known for the theory of relativity and the mass-energy equivalence E=mc². Won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the photoelectric effect. Beyond the science, Einstein is endlessly quoted in founder circles for his views on simplicity, intuition, thought experiments, and the value of questioning assumptions others take for granted — which is why he shows up in strategy and product notes far more than physics ones.
Core Ideas
- First-principles thinking — dismantle assumptions down to what's physically true, then rebuild
- Thought experiments — reasoning with the mind when the lab isn't available
- "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler" — a design principle disguised as a physics principle
