Karthik reported the Monday sit (he said yesterday). Notes he brought:
- Varun felt left out of the videos.
- Half-hearted acknowledgment he did not show up at the office during the shoots.
- He missed a lot of Slack and email where the shoots were mentioned.
- Tired of tech. Wants something different, something new every day. Maybe agents (still tech).
- Deep exploration is limited at their scale.
- Feels like the same thing every day: vibe code.
- Swaathi offered servers and bringing in new frameworks. He is bored, not enthusiastic.
Karthik: “I’m confused.”
Coaching frame used 2026-08-18:
- Two rooms got run as one. Videos (belonging) vs seat (does he still want this work).
- Do not wash belonging with Slack/email. Camera is already owned. Leave it closed.
- Do not invent an exploration lab to soothe leftover. Swaathi offering jobs so he feels inside is the couple picture.
- Next sit, one question: what will you own for 90 days that this company actually needs. Novelty as the answer = founder who wants out of the work.
- Asked Karthik: how they left the room (three in, three out?), and whether he is scared Varun will leave.
Karthik follow-up 2026-08-18 (same morning): not scared Varun will leave. Worried anyone (including payroll) becomes a resource hog and drags progress. Second conversation on this. Varun has never come back with what he actually wants to do that would excite him and keep him pushing.
He still did not say how they left the room.
Coaching frame used on that reply:
- CEO math, not confusion. Fear of stay-without-weight, not of the leave.
- Two empty returns on “what excites you” is the answer. Stop waiting for a wish list.
- Two roads: name a real 90-day seat the company needs, with a date; or keep shopping roles and fund the hog.
- Do not ask what would excite him again. He has had two chances. Next move is Karthik’s.
- Asked him to name the real seat he would give Varun for 90 days if he stays.
